On 11th August, 2016, Samsung launched the much awaited Galaxy Note 7 in India.
At the launch, another blogger asked me what I thought about the Note 7. My response? I said, “It’s a Note. Always impressive!”
Indeed, since the first Galaxy Note launched in 2011, the Note range has been delighting phablet fans with exceptional features and technologies. The first Note ushered in the concept of phablet devices and the superAMOLED display and S Pen. With Note 2, Samsung launched the multi-window technology. Note 3 brought Air Commands and Samsung Knox security. Note 4 unveiled the HD superAMOLED display, and so on. Now we have the Note 7. So what new delights has it brought with it? Let’s see:
Samsung Galaxy Note7 Features and Specifications:
Curved Display: Galaxy Note7 has a dual edge curved 5.7-inch QHD Super AMOLED display. SuperAMOLED screen makes for brilliant display. The curved edges of the display enhance the viewing experience by making it more immersive.
Customizable Screen Resolution: This is quite an innovative feature that lets users adjust the display ranging from HD, FHD and QHD. If a user is running out of battery, the screen resolution can be reduced to make battery last longer.
Edge Panel: The curved display has an Edge Panel that gives an easy and one tap access to to favourite contacts, applications, frequently used functions and news etc.
IP68 rated Dust & Water Resistant: Note7 has the protection of Corning® Gorilla® Glass 5. It is also IP68 rated dust and water resistant. It can endure dipping into upto 1.5m water for up to 30 minutes.
Design: Note7 has metal and glass body with a new curved design with very thin bezel and sleek profile. It looks really nice and feels good to hold.
Colours: Note 7 will be available in Gold Platinum, Silver Titanium and Black Onyx colour options.
New & Improved: The list of Galaxy Note7 features can’t be complete without the S Pen features. The S Pen has received several new improvements and features. Most importantly, the tip of the S Pen is now 50% thinner than earlier. It now measures only 0.7mm, giving more stroke control while writing or drawing.
Air Command Translate: Using this feature of the S Pen, users can quickly translate any on-screen text by just putting the S Pen above the word. This feature supports 38 input and 71 output languages. These include 11 Indian languages as well.
Magnify: Users can magnify any area of the screen by using this feature of the S Pen.
Smart Select: This feature crops up a video and turns it into a gif.
Water Resistant: Yes, not just the phone, the S Pen is water resistant too.
Iris Scanning and Fingerprint Scanning: Besides the Samsung KNOX, Galaxy Note7 features also include several other security features. The most important of these is Iris Scanning. This is biometric authentication procedure that uses iris mapping for user identification. This is in addition to the Fingerprint scanning.
Secure Folder: In Galaxy Note7, users can create a Secure Folder to protect their sensitive data. This folder is protected by user’s chosen method like the Iris scanning. It can also be made invisible.
Samsung Pass: Note7 also supports Samsung Pass and can use iris scanning and fingerprint for user authentication in other apps and services.
Malware Protection: Keeping in mind the rising threat of mobile malware, Note7 will come pre-installed with McAfee® VirusScan® mobile security and anti-malware technology. (Update: 23rd August)
Galaxy Note7 is equipped with 12MP dual-pixel rear camera with of f/1.7 wide aperture. The front camera is 5MP. On appearance these numbers might sound disappointing in such a premium device. But thanks to better technology like the Dual Pixel technology, these 12MP and 5MP cameras capture better photos than higher mega pixel cameras of most other smartphones.
