It is no longer news that our televisions are getting bigger and smarter. They are also getting sleeker and more stylish. All major TV brands are in race to add unique innovation to their televisions. The displays of televisions have changed quite a lot in the recent few years. LG Electronics is one of the major players in this race.
I have seen the LG SIGNATURE OLED TV W. It is called the Wallpaper TV because it sticks to the wall like a poster. There’s no box at its back and it has the thickness of only 2.57mm. It was a treat viewing the gorgeous OLED display of this TV.
Now, LG has gone a step beyond and unveiled a smart OLED television that’s rollable! This unveiling took place in Las Vegas on 8th Jan at the CES 2019. Besides all the premium features like OLED display, powerful processor, and Dolby Atoms audio system, this television by LG has a display that can be rolled up and down. This brand new TV is called LG SIGNATURE OLED TV R. The W in the Signature OLED TV W probably meant Wallpaper. Likewise, the R in SIGNATURE OLED TV R perhaps means Rollable. LG claims it signifies revolution in home entertainment and redefining space through its ability to rise and roll-up at the touch of a button.
So let’s see what this innovative LG SIGNATURE OLED TV R can do:
Three viewing options:
SIGNATURE OLED TV R gives the users three TV viewing options. These are Full View, Line View, and Zero View. All three of these screen size options have different functions. And they can be changed by the press of a button. The advantage of these three options is that when you are not watching a TV, you can roll it up to Line or Zero view to remove the black rectangle of the switched off TV and open the space. You can’t really use this space for anything else because the TV base is still there, but at least the black rectangle has vanished.
Here are the details of each of these viewing options:
This, as you might have guessed, is the normal full-sized, 65 inch TV view. Being a premium smart television, SIGNATURE OLED TV R is equipped with high technology for superior performance and TV viewing experience. This includes the brilliant OLED display, ThinQ AI and Alpha 9 Gen 2 Processor. The smart TV is compatible with Smart Assistants like Alexa and Siri and supports Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit.
The R TV has 4.2-channel, 100W front-firing Dolby Atmos audio system which is available in all three viewing options. There is a brushed aluminum casing of the wool speaker cover which is designed by Kvadrat of Denmark.
When the user is not watching the TV, it can be rolled up to the Line View. This view can display clock, photos, mood lighting, and Home Dashboard. Music can also be played in this view with its information being shown on the display.
This is the minimum size viewing angle. In this viewing option, the entire display rolls down within the base. But the TV can still be used to play audio content and communicate with the Smart Assistants.
Quite an innovative idea for a television, don’t you think? It has made its appearance only in Las Vegas yet. I wish it would arrive in India soon. Of course, it is a premium television so would bear a heavy price tag. But I’m looking forward to see its display roll up with my own eyes.
