Rarely do you get to sample the essence of what you’re about to buy before you get it. At the supermarket sometimes you get a free taste of something that’s on sale. Occasionally streaming services offer a free trial. But by and large, the maxim of the market is “caveat emptor.”
Think about it. Before you hire a mechanic to work on your car, you really have no idea what you’ll be getting. When you go out to eat at a restaurant, you might be wooed by the eloquent description on the menu only to be utterly and abjectly underwhelmed by the plate delivered.
In digital marketing, this is also true – with one exception: SEO.
Let’s talk a bit more about this.
This Is SEO
If you’re looking for the best eCommerce SEO company, they’re going to show up at the tops of the SERPs, for something. We don’t know what it is yet, but we’ll get there.
We need to break this down for it to make sense. Type “eCommerce SEO” into the search bar, and see what comes up.
Skip the ads, those are paid for. The organic results are where you get the proof of the pudding.
See those top spots? Those companies are doing something right. The fact that they are at the tops of the SERPs is the literal proof that they know SEO and can get it done.
But the truth of the matter is that there are way more than two or three “good” eCommerce SEO companies out there. We can’t all be number one for everything. Those companies are good at what they do and probably elite at offering eCommerce SEO services.
Does this mean they are the only companies with a claim to the title of “best”? Far from it. Consider the number of industries in eCommerce to make sense of it.
They are good – for some clients they would be the best eCommerce SEO agencies in the market. But there are other things to consider.
For instance, try looking at this from a standpoint of the market you serve. Try looking up “lead gen SEO” or “SEO for lead generation” and see what populates at the top.
Or, break it down by market. Does your company sell clothes? Try “fashion SEO” or “menswear SEO” or “SEO for boutiques” and see what comes up at the top.
All of those entries are also authored by SEO companies that know what they’re doing. And you know what? For your industry, they might even be better than the ones that show up at the top for the general keyword “eCommerce SEO.”
Let’s be very clear, now. In order for any of these companies to show up at the tops of the search engine results pages for those search terms, they need to be very good at what they do – which, in this case, is SEO.
Therefore, the company that shows up for “fashion SEO” is very likely to be good at ranking for that and similar keywords, which is what you want for your business, isn’t it?
That alone is the single best reason to scan the organic search engine results pages before you select the “best” eCommerce SEO agency for your business.
Getting Started with the Best eCommerce SEO Agency in Your Niche
Before you start out looking in the SERPs for an agency to help your business, remember, there isn’t one single best option. In reality, there are probably many.
Just make sure that you do choose one that has a proven ability to rank effectively in the SERPs. Either way, the agency’s ability to execute on the same moves for your organization will come into play during your campaign.
